An Introduction

I'm going to be honest. I don't know if this is correct, good enough, or proper, but what's a blog without at least a little informality?

My name is Sen R. L. Scherb with no correlation to R. L. Stine, which I only just realized the similarities as I was writing it out, even though I did choose the name myself. I'm nonbinary and use they/them, and will definitely be sad if I hear other pronouns being used though almost never correct it myself. A fun game might be to guess what the L stands for, which personally I feel like isn't hard if you've listened to me talk about my interests for more than two minutes.

Though primarily a fantasy lover, I've been intrigued by horror books and movies lately and wanted to pursue them more in a class format, especially one about monsters. I'm definitely intrigued to be taking a class about the concept of monsters- I once took a class in my undergrad at the University of Iowa called "The Making of Monsters", though the final project ultimately was about taking a real "monster" and writing a nonfiction essay about it. Me being the fantasy person I am and disliking writing almost anything without some semblance of magic decided to write about the Our Lady of the Angels school fire in 1958, in which the arsonist was never officially caught- but from the perspective of the fire.

I have a very broad array of interests that I will never stop talking about if you give me the chance, but that means that I'm a well of knowledge in many subjects including but not limited to: birds and bird handling, art, video games (especially Legend of Zelda), dungeons and dragons, knitting, and creating potential plausible scientific explanations for how a fantasy concept or creature might work (such as how a 15-20 foot tall dragon would be able to run at ~200mph for extended periods of time). I'm sure there's more I'm missing. Please feel free to ask me about stuff.

In spirit I am always joined by my two cats, Salem and Wren. They like me far better than my octopus, whose name is Jones. If anyone desires having something drawn for one of their works, feel free to contact me, I'm sure we can work something out.
